Ontario Marginalized Index – September 2020 Update

Hi all,
Hope everyone’s Fall semester is off to a great start & you’re enjoying the last bit of warmth and clear skies.

I wanted to share some updates as well as technical documentation, for those who have been asking, on the Ontario Marginal Index dataset in our research. Faisal has put alot of work into auditing & combing through this data to ensure accurate practices were being used for our research, so huge thanks for all his hard work!

Highlights

Four major updates were executed:

  1. Postal Code Conversion Process Update
  2. Postal Code Conversion Dataset Update
  3. Quintiles Recalculated
  4. Coding Improvements

Reviewing the STATA MergedSet.dta, you will find for each OMI dimension and for each region, both the 3-digit and 6-digit factor and quintile scores. e.g.:

  1. Residential Instability
  2. Material Deprivation
  3. Dependency
  4. Ethnic Concentration
  • Ontario
  • Factor scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16
  • Quintile scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16
  • Factor scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16_6
  • Quintile scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16_6
  • GTA
  • Factor scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16_gta
  • Quintile scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16_gta
  • Factor scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16_gta_6
  • Quintile scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16_gta_6
  • Toronto
  • Factor scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16_to
  • Quintile scores using 3-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16_to
  • Factor scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_da16_to_6
  • Quintile scores using 6-digit postal codes = ethniccon_q_da16_to_6

Detailed info on all updates and variables are outlined in the documentation file attached. Please review the latest dataset to find this reflected:
